Activities

William Blake House is an anthroposophical community in the midst of Northamptonshire. William Blake house provides care for people with various learning difficulties and also physical disabilities

William Blake House currently has eight residents. We offer a variety of therapies to improve their health and activities to enrich their lives with meaningful activities and work placements. Our services are based on the ‘person centred’ approach. This means that every resident is looked after individually with specific Care Plans designed according to their social, physical, emotional and spiritual needs.

Therapies

In William Blake House there is a team of anthroposophical therapists and curative educators which provide valuable service to improve the overall health and well-being of the residents.

Some of these therapies include:

Eurythmy

Eurythmy is an expressive movement art originated by Rudolf Steiner in conjunction with Marie von Sivers in the early 20th century. Primarily a performance art; it is also used in education especially in Waldorf education and as a movement therapy.

Anthroposophical Therapeutic Art

Art therapy helps to harmonise what has become one-sided, transforming habits by awakening new faculties of imaginations. It is based on the understanding of a human being in accordance with the image given by Rudolf Steiner. Subtle processes work on the feelings and emotions to restore inner balance, which in turn affect the health of the physical body. Physical well being and emotional life are deeply connected, and so art therapy is able to complement the effect of the medicine as prescribed by the doctor.

Participating in art therapy gives the possibility to take part in one's own healing process as it stimulates individual initiative in accordance with one's own needs and aims. This strengthens inherent forces of health, which have been displaced by illness.

Anthroposophical Massage Therapy

Rhythmical Massage Therapy is one of the more passive forms of Anthroposophical therapies requiring little more from the patient than the possibility to relax. It helps the body regain its equilibrium. Healing comes mainly out of the direct response to what is given through the practitioner in restoring harmony within the body.

Social Activities

William Blake House provides various social activities to improve the social interaction skills of the residents and also enhance their involvement in meaningful activities. These activities are called 'work shops'.

Singing

Singing takes place weekly in William Blake House. The professional curative educator from a local anthroposophical community practices singing with the residents and also the volunteer workers. The songs are closely related to the seasons of the year and the anthroposophical festivals. The residents play the instruments and have a great fun during the sessions.

Music

Music is another exciting project which takes place weekly for some of the residents who are particularly interested in playing musical instruments such as guitar, keyboard, drums and other instruments. The uniqueness of these sessions is that melodies created by the residents are recorded and transformed into a piece of music so that residents could listen to it and enjoy.

Drama

Drama is one of the recent pilot projects, which has been introduced by one of the workshop leaders in William Blake House. In the sessions the residents and their key workers/volunteers choose the stories and enjoy acting.

Gardening

Gardening is one of the creative and also the most popular workshop in William Blake House. Once a week all residents get together and also their key workers/volunteers to do some small projects. During the summer period the residents are involved in various projects in the garden such as planting the vegetables, making birds houses etc.... During the winter period the Gardening workshop transforms into a creative place where the residents make Halloween masks, Christmas cards life books and many other projects.

This workshop gives an opportunity for the resident to read the newspapers and to be aware of the current affairs, which are nicely presented in a coherent way by the experienced workshop leader.
